CHRISTINE'S CLIMATE RIDE RAISES OVER $135,000 FOR WILDLIFE

Wild Tomorrow’s new US Board member, Christine Greybe, together with her husband Glenn, put their pedal power to the test riding 80 miles across the northern rim of the Grand Canyon last weekend with our partner charity, Climate Ride. Together, the small but mighty Team Meerkat has so far raised an incredible $135,000 for Wild Tomorrow. Read more about Christine, her competitive spirit, and the Climate Ride in our latest blog post below.

Christine Greybe, a Wild Tomorrow US Board Member, riding along the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon in support of Wild Tomorrow’s work in South Africa.

Hailing originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Christine Greybe joined Wild Tomorrow’s US Board in June last year, and has proven to be a remarkably driven addition to our team!

Christine is the President of DHR Leadership Consulting where she leads a global team of experts who help organizations identify, develop and recruit executives leaders across the C-suite and boards. After a successful career in Asia, Christine and her husband Glenn, much like Wild Tomorrow, are now based in both the US and South Africa, splitting their time equally between Cape Town and Los Angeles.

Christine’s competitive and adventurous spirit has brought her to some pretty incredible places. She was a competitive runner and ran competitively alongside Olympic (1984 and 1992) runner Zola Budd. She has biked through the vineyards and beautiful landscapes of places like France and Spain, and, most recently, biked the North Rim of the Grand Canyon raising funds for Wild Tomorrow through our charity partners, Climate Ride!

This weekend, Christine and Glenn loaded their mountain bikes and drove from LA to St. George where they embarked on an 80-mile off-road trail ending with a single track along the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Pedaling to help protect wildlife and wild spaces, they started by exploring the remote Kaibab Plateau rising high above the magnificent Grand Canyon. They rode through ponderosa and aspen forests on a fun 2-day section of the Arizona Trail. They then traversed the plateau to finish the last days of the 80-mile tour on the magnificent Rainbow Rim Trail!

This is mountain biking at its best with winding single track and stunning views into the Grand Canyon. The combination of high desert vistas, forest trails, and alpine meadows made for an incredibly scenic route. Christine recounts, “What an exhilarating experience. I met a great group of people who share a love of the outdoors, riding bikes, and concern for the environment. The 4 days were amazingly varied, from forest roads to single and double track through meadows, ending in undulating single track along the north rim starting at Locus Point and following the Rainbow Trail. Breathtaking scenery.

It was fun to stretch myself and improve my mountain biking skills thanks to the excellent guiding by Rim Tours and support from fellow riders. The most challenging for me was the fast and rocky single-track downhill sections, but I managed and felt stronger (I did have to push my bike occasionally when the rocks got the better of me!)

My first time at the North Rim. This perspective of the canyon without the tourism is amazing. We camped under the Ponderosa Pines each night and shared stories and learned about the impact and contribution each rider is making on the environment.

This was such a cool experience and I hope to join another ride in 2024. Caeli Quinn thank you for organizing such a special ride.”

Not only did Christine and Glenn accomplish an incredible 4-day and 80-mile bike ride, but, in addition, they raised an incredible $134,172 so far for Wild Tomorrow’s work protecting wildlife and wild places. And, better yet, Team Meerkat hit the leaderboard as the top fundraising team for the whole event!
